The types of payments to graduate students (stipends, tuition, health, and one-time payments) will remain the same. There are no changes to the user entry perspective in Teaching Fellow System (TFS).

The new Graduate Student Funding Project impacts faculty, and staff that support payment transactions that were initiated and managed by GSPS and the mechanism creating reports. This new process implemented Banner and Workday for payment transactions and Power BI for reporting.

In our Admissions offers, we will add this statement to VAR admissions letters for students with faculty support:
Based on the information you provided, we understand that your financial support will include: [fill in details on amount of personal support, outside scholarship, faculty support]. A VAR who receives compensation from a Yale faculty is making a full-time commitment and may not seek employment at Yale or elsewhere outside Yale during the enrollment in the VAR program. The Yale compensation is provided in return for up to 20 hours per week of service to the faculty member; all remaining time is reserved for training and education.
Additionally, the following guidelines regarding the amount of compensation and the source shall be shared:
a. Students will be paid as Project Assistants (job title) and with the earnings element of Other Student Earnings through the Student Employment office and TimeSheetX.
b. The compensation provided by a faculty member is classified as taxable income and will be reported on a W-2.
c. For VARs who receive financial support from a faculty member, the total amount of funding, including any personal funds or external support, must be at least that of a Yale postgrad appointment minimum and no more than that of a GSAS PhD student stipends in the same department or program.
